Participating in the New Age is Original Sin

Sometimes I wonder what it must have been like to be God, who created the Earth in six days and rested on the seventh. On day six, He created man—what an incredible creation! God wanted man to be good, to be obedient. He formed Adam, and then from Adam, created Eve. He placed them in a beautiful, bountiful home—the Garden of Eden.
He gave them just one command: Do not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. For a time, life was good. Creation was functioning just as He intended. But then came the Serpent. Through cunning deception, Satan tempted Eve. She gave in, ate the fruit, and gave some to Adam. This act of disobedience led to the fall of man.
“You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”— Genesis 3:4-5
When I think of the New Age, there are striking similarities between what Adam and Eve did and what people do today through meditation, rituals, and energy practices. Before my spiritual journey, I was largely ignorant of the spiritual realm. I was innocent and easy to manipulate. I wasn’t raised with any religious foundation, so I had no clear understanding of good or evil.
So, when the New Age came into my life through a Korean spiritual group, I truly had no idea what I was getting into.
Looking for Light in a Time of Darkness
At that point in my life, things felt like they were falling apart. My ex-husband was passive-aggressive and often withheld affection. He criticized and nagged me constantly. My job was stressful, and I wasn’t sleeping well. The weight of all that negativity made life feel unbearable. I was desperate for a solution.
That’s when a master from the Korean spiritual group I had attended seven years earlier reached out. He reminded me that I could take classes again. This was before the mindfulness movement was mainstream, so I didn’t feel I had many other options. Since their classes had helped reduce my stress before, I decided to return.
And to be honest, the energy in those classes always made me feel better. We tapped, shook, stretched, and meditated. I felt energy flow through me, and my stress would melt away. Eventually, I decided to go deeper and attended their retreats in Sedona.
But this was not just a yoga or tai chi studio—this group was led by a powerful, charismatic leader.
The Sparkling Deceiver
The Korean guru was... different. One time I shook his hand and could feel every cell in his body vibrating. When I hugged him, it felt like he had a sun shining in his chest. I was highly sensitive to energy, and his was unusually radiant.
But here's the thing—Lucifer is also known as the “light bearer.” And even though I had never read the Bible at that time, something about his dazzling presence made me wonder: "Is this Lucifer?"
His teachings sounded beautiful: love each other, respect nature, learn lessons, grow, and heal. With his shiny energy and peaceful principles, how could anyone say no? He was a welcome "light" in the darkness of ordinary life.
Looking back, I realize—I’ve always been attracted to bright, shiny things.
“And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”— 2 Corinthians 11:14
Curiosity, Anchors, and the Slippery Slope
For many, the path into the New Age begins more subtly. A yoga class. A meditation session. An energy healing. A book about crystals or chakras. These small steps awaken curiosity. That curiosity leads to more exploration... until one day, you’re all in.
Eventually, spiritual “anchors” are formed. Beliefs like:
“We are all One.”
“What I see in you is also in me.”
“We are here to complete our souls.”
“We are limitless beings.”
At first glance, these may seem harmless—even uplifting. But these ideas become gateways to the enemy. They are modern bites of the same ancient fruit—rebellion against God.
These beliefs lead you away from the truth of the Gospel. They distract you from Jesus Christ and subtly convince you that you are God—a direct contradiction of biblical truth.
“You shall have no other gods before me.”— Exodus 20:3
“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him… and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal human beings…”— Romans 1:21, 23
The Deeper You Go, The Darker It Gets
These beliefs aren’t just harmless affirmations—they serve as spiritual entry points. They lead you deeper and deeper into experiences and “wisdom” that are not of God. I went there. I’ve seen things I wouldn’t wish upon my worst enemies.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”— Ephesians 6:12
Let this be a warning to the seekers among you. Not all light is from God. Some of it is counterfeit—crafted to look beautiful but designed to enslave your soul.
Final Reflection
Participating in the New Age is not just a mistake. It is rebellion. It is Original Sin—a modern echo of that fateful day in Eden. Just as Eve reached out for the forbidden fruit, thinking it would make her wise, so do many today reach out for “hidden knowledge,” “healing energy,” or “enlightenment.”
But the truth is simple: we don’t need to become gods. We need Jesus Christ.
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”— John 14:6
If you’re caught in New Age practices, I urge you—repent, turn back, and return to the One true God. And know that Jesus is the way to God. He is waiting for you.
The Good News: Jesus Redeems Original Sin
But here’s the Good News: even though Adam and Eve sinned, and even though we’ve all fallen short in one way or another—even through New Age practices—God made a way back to Himself.
Through Jesus Christ, we are offered forgiveness, freedom, and full restoration.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”— Romans 3:23–24
Jesus died on the cross not only for the sins we commit daily, but also for the original sin that broke our connection with God in the first place. He bore the weight of our rebellion so we wouldn’t have to carry it anymore.
If you’ve walked the path of deception, you’re not too far gone. He is not angry with you—He is waiting for you. His arms are open. His heart is for you.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”— Romans 5:8
There is nothing in the New Age that can offer what Jesus does—true peace, eternal life, and a restored relationship with the living God.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a humble heart, acknowledging that I once sought light in places apart from You. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I turned to false teachings, for the moments I chased after knowledge, power, or peace without seeking You first.
I renounce every lie of the enemy that told me I could be like God, that I could save myself, or that I could find truth apart from Your Word.
I break agreement with every anchor of deception, every spiritual doorway I opened, knowingly or unknowingly.
Jesus, I proclaim You as the only Way, the only Truth, and the only Life.
Wash me clean with Your blood, and fill every place in me that was once occupied by darkness with Your Holy Spirit.
Restore to me the innocence that was lost, while retaining the lessons needed, and set my feet firmly upon Your path.
Thank You for Your mercy, Your love, and Your truth that sets me free.
May this testimony be a light for others still caught in deception.
Use it for Your glory, Lord.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
