Who Is Satan? A Former New Ager Explains

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”— Ephesians 6:12
For years, I was immersed in the New Age. On the surface, it appeared to be a path of peace, healing, and empowerment. But underneath that glowing exterior was a deeper truth — one I only saw once the veil lifted. It wasn’t just “energy work” or “light.” It was spiritual warfare.
The Bible doesn’t sugarcoat reality. This world is a battleground, not just physically, but spiritually. And the enemy isn’t just “bad vibes” or “negative thoughts.” The enemy is Satan — a real being, and a master of deception.
The Truth About Satan
Satan doesn’t show up with horns and a pitchfork. He masquerades as light. He seduces people with promises of power, healing, wisdom, and even divinity. And that’s exactly what the New Age offers: godhood.
But that promise isn’t new. It goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden.
“You will be like God...”— Genesis 3:5 (paraphrased from the serpent’s lie to Eve)
That’s always been Satan’s trick — to lure us with the idea that we don’t need God, that we can become gods ourselves. And the New Age taps directly into that deep, subconscious desire to return to Eden, to undo the fall. It's a powerful carrot — and Satan knows how to dangle it well.
Jesus Came to Destroy the Works of the Devil
When Jesus walked the Earth, He didn’t just preach love and kindness — He healed the sick, cast out demons, and delivered people from spiritual bondage. He came to expose and defeat the dark spiritual powers that still roam the world.
“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”— 1 John 3:8
If you’ve ever wondered why you feel spiritually drained, confused, or caught in cycles of anxiety or pride despite all your “healing” work — it could be because you're not dealing with energy. You're wrestling with principalities and powers.
The Trap of “Fake Light”
The New Age is a self-centered path cloaked in light. It seems benevolent. It even borrows language from Christianity — words like “Christ consciousness” or “unconditional love.” But its foundation is not on the truth of God’s Word. Its goal is to make you rely on yourself, not on God. And once you’re deep in it, Satan will trap you, tempt you, isolate you, and slowly pull you into sin and spiritual darkness.
I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it.
There are many of us speaking out now — former New Agers who were once deceived but are now set free in Christ. And yet, if you’re still in the “being lured in” phase, it’s hard to hear. The light still feels real. The healing still feels helpful. But at some point, you begin to see: it’s all about you. And the deeper you go, the more you realize the peace isn’t lasting, and the healing never ends — because the real Healer is not in it.
Jesus Is the Only Way
God is not vague or cryptic about how to reach Him. He tells us plainly:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”— John 14:6
No spiritual practice. No ritual. No mantras, crystals, or chakras. Only Jesus.
If you’re feeling something stirring in your spirit right now, I want you to know: you are not alone, and you don’t have to stay trapped. Jesus is real. He’s not just a teacher or a prophet. He is the Son of God — the only one who can save your soul and deliver you from the grip of deception.
If this resonates with you, I invite you to pray. Just talk to God. Ask Him to show you the truth. Ask Jesus to come into your life, forgive you, and lead you. You don’t need a perfect prayer — you just need a willing heart.
